Tech Talks

2025, Digital Modes, Tech Talks

Join Us Saturday Morning, March 15 at the EOC For an Introduction to Digital Modes Used in Amateur Radio Presented by Steve W5HK FT8 is the only digital mode used by most hams, and its impact is legendary, but it is only the beginning.... Digital modes in amateur radio include both voice and data We will review all four of the modes used on HF and VHF/UHF for voice The WSJT-X program suite provides several other important modes beside FT8; FLDIGI provides virtually all other digital modes used for text communication There are several trends taking place that indicate the hobby is moving away from voice on HF Many hams today seem to prefer text over other modes VarAC, a purely text mode, is the virtual standard for EMCOM across the country One mode started this whole trend and took years to establish in amateur use, and is still viable today. It is comparable in age to the original communications mode Morse Code Join us live or on Zoom at https://W5HRC.ORG/Clublive
